Residential Community Safety Officers (RCSO)

The Department of Public Safety:

The Department of Public Safety (DPS), which serves the Syracuse University campus and University-controlled properties in Syracuse, NY, includes a security force comprised of Public Safety Officers, who are sworn New York State peace officers. Public Safety Officers are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week conducting patrols around the University campus and community to address our community’s security needs; and the DPS emergency communication center, staffed with 12 APCO certified public safety dispatchers is available around-the-clock to receive emergency calls by telephone, radio system and computer-aided dispatch.

The Residential Community Safety Officer (RCSO) is a visible frontline presence responsible for validating access to Syracuse University residential facilities to promote safety and security of our residents.
