Cleaners/Janitorial Staff are responsible for keeping commercial buildings clean and in a orderly condition. The employee performs regular cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, vacuuming rugs, cleaning rest rooms, washing windows, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. Duties may include, performing routine maintenance activities, notifying management of need for repairs, and cleaning snow or debris. The Custodial Specialist 1 must participate in the company new employee orientation prior to going into the field and have a basic understanding of company policies, which includes but not limited to: workplace standards of conduct, best practices for general housekeeping tasks, chemical mixing and handling safety, uniform and appearance standards. The Custodial Specialist 1 must understand and use the company automated timekeeping system (Express Time) and adheres to the company's well defined clock in procedure.
Attendance is mandatory, the Custodial Specialist 1 must possess the ability to consistently report to work at assigned times and days, and follow the company policy regarding requesting time off.
Tasks Include:
* Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
* Gather and empty trash.
* Follow all safety procedures for all tasks including placing wet floor signs, barricades and alerting building occupants to safety hazards.
* Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
* Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
* Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
* Assist site supervisor and project managers in stripping, sealing, refinish of floors, carpet shampooing, and other major projects when applicable.
* Notify supervisor concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
* Notify supervisors of supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
* Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
* Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
* Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving entire body, such as climbing, lifting, up to 50 pounds, balancing, walking, and handling of materials.
