CSA Course Summary

The Job:
Entry level cleaning jobs with a variety of employers such as hospitals, schools, and hotels. If you have multiple years of custodial experience, a custodial certificate would qualify you for a higher position.
Expected Salary:
$10 - $13/hour for entry-level jobs. Jobs requiring experience pay $16 - $22/hr.
The Program:
The Custodial Technician Training Certification program covers the basics of janitorial daily cleaning in six modules as set out by the Cleaning Management Institute and ISSA. The certificate is a relatively new offering that aims to raise industry sanitation standards. Many well-known institutions require all their custodians to complete certification upon employment. Examples of these are: The University of Tennessee, The Smithsonian Institute, John Hopkins’s Hospital, and the U.S. Department of Justice.
The course also includes soft skills training and job development support. Soft skills are covered during class time and include: teamwork, personality strengths, communication, networking, problem solving, professionalism, organizing and planning. Job development occurs during weekly 1 hour individual meetings. Instructors use a needs base approach and cover topics such as: resume and cover letter writing, job search skills, interview preparation, and job fairs.
Duration: 16 Weeks (10 weeks of class, 16 weeks of individual meetings)
When: Class starts Tuesday March 20th. Class times are Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30am to 12:30pm. Individual weekly meetings are an additional hour.
Where: TClasses and meeting will be held at The Northeast Community Center located at 716 Hawley Ave
Cost: There is no cost to the student. Incentives are offered for those who complete the course.
Who can apply: We are looking for applicants who:
- Are unemployed or underemployed as determined by CNY Works
- Can read and write at a 7th grade level
- Can stand/walk for long periods of time
- Show desire to commit to the course
- Have reliable transport to The Northeast Community Center
